About Appleton Beef

The Pearson family have farmed at Manor House Farm East Appleton for well over 80 years, with glorious views of the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors it is truly a wonderful place to live and farm.

In 2005 we purchased a small herd of Lincoln Red Cattle, renowned for their supreme beef, nicely marbled like good old beef used to be. The marbled fat gives an enhanced flavour to all cuts whether it's a roast, steak or minced beef.

We chose Lincoln Red Cattle as the quality of the beef is supreme. Our beef is home bred, fully traceable and delivered to your door, so we reduce food miles and minimise the carbon footprint at the same time.

The cattle are a hardy, native British breed, the original blood lines listed with the Rare Breeds Survival Trust. Ideal as their grazing habits are really helpful to the environment; being non-selective grazers they are ideally for our pasture land and reducing artificial fertilisers.

The herd remains outside grazing grass for most of the year, only coming inside for the worst of the winter. During these few weeks they will eat silage and hay and rest in plenty of comfortable straw.

They are a very placid breed, enjoying being together as a herd. The new calves stay with their mothers for 8 - 10 months. They will mature with their fellow calves between 24 - 20 months of age and as they are a slow maturing breed and grass-reared this adds to the ultimate flavour of the meat.
